Residential solar company Complete Solar announced it will change its name to SunPower, after completing acquisition of the bankrupt-SunPower’s assets last year.

“We are going to use our SunPower brand name, so our shareholders can benefit from the name of the oldest and most famous Silicon Valley solar company founded 40 years ago in 1985,” said T.J. Rodgers, Complete Solar chairman and CEO. “We are in the process of formally changing our name to SunPower and our stock market ticker symbol to SPWR.”

Complete Solar has gone through a number of changes in the last three years. Originally a California-based residential sales platform, Complete Solar merged with solar panel company Solaria in 2022. Solaria, a leader in shingled-module technology, used a network of residential installation partners in the United States to distribute its high-tech panels.

Complete Solar eventually sold Solaria’s intellectual property to Maxeon, the panel manufacturing spinout of SunPower, formerly the country’s largest residential installation dealer. Complete Solar said it would then offer Maxeon solar panels to its installation network.

SunPower itself filed for bankruptcy in August 2024, and Complete Solar acquired certain residential installation assets from the company. Now Complete Solar will operate under the SunPower name.

After completing two quarters with the SunPower acquisition, Complete Solar said it is now operating as a $300 million residential solar installer, allegedly ranked fifth in the market.
