A documentary film on the benefits of co-habiting solar and farmland can now be watched for free on YouTube.
The film, Save the Farm, Save the Future, is a one-hour documentary from independent filmmaker Chad Weber and Free Range Films that investigates agrivoltaics and the future of farming in Colorado and beyond.
Save the Farm, Save the Future follows Colorado farmers and ranchers as they explore agrivoltaics and contemplate if farms can survive while helping society meet renewable energy needs.
“Farming in Colorado is only getting harder, thanks to climate change, water scarcity and economic pressures,” Weber said. “Agrivoltaics is one tool giving farmers hope to build resilience, diversify income and keep agricultural land in production.”
The film features Byron Kominek of Jack’s Solar Garden in Longmont — one of the nation’s leading agrivoltaics demonstration sites — and highlights how pairing solar with farming can conserve water, generate new revenue streams, expand land access for ranchers and build resilience against extreme weather. Kominek was chosen as one of Solar Power World’s featured Rising Stars last year.
The film also profiles farmers across Colorado, from peach grower Charlie Talbott on the Western Slope to large-scale crop producer Roy Pflatzgraff on the Eastern Plains.
