LiFePO4 battery is widely used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems, and its characteristics determine its use scenario. It is safe, will not explode, and will not catch fire; longer life span, and the number of cycles of A-grade cells reaches more than 5000 times. CNBOU will tell you how to see:
- Is your battery LiFePO4?
Because of the material, the LiFePO4 battery cell’s single nominal voltage can only be 3.2V, you can directly determine whether the total nominal voltage of the battery you buy is a multiple of 3.2V, whether it is a LiFePO4 battery. The usual voltage is 12.8Vdc/25.6V/51.2V.
- Key points of LiFePO4 quality – battery cell
The most basic thing that determines the LiFePO4 battery cell is the battery cell, the recipe of each cell manufacturing company is different, and the finished product size and weight will be different. The most critical indicator is its discharge rate and cycle life, if you buy a battery it limits the discharge factor. grade A battery is to support 1C continuous charge and discharge, and the number of cycles > 5000 times DOD> 80%. If your battery is 5.12kwh, it is able to directly 5000W power output, which means the battery is Grade A. If your battery is limited to 0.5C, the 5.12kWh battery can only support a maximum of 2500W power output, it is likely to be a Grade B cell. If it is <0.5C, then it is most likely to be an old battery cell.
- Key points of LiFePO4 quality – BMS
Unlike a traditional lead-acid battery, LiFePO4 must need BMS to protect the battery, so that the battery life can reach the best condition, BMS can detect the voltage and temperature of each cell, if the BMS has active equalization function, in the process of use, when a cell abnormal, it will automatically charge and discharge the single battery, so that it can keep the same voltage with other batteries. In the whole energy storage equipment, make sure to make the BMS and inverter communicate, but when the battery is abnormal, notify the MPPT to stop charging, or the inverter to stop working so that the whole system is more stable. liFePO4 is very sensitive to temperature, especially the low-temperature state, when the temperature is lower than 0 degrees Celsius, it is recommended not to charge the battery, and the temperature detection function of BMS will control and not let the inverter charge it. If your LiFePO4 battery has an automatic heating function, BMS will heat the whole battery when it reaches 0 degrees Celsius and make it reach 5 degree Celsius before it starts to work.
- Key points of LiFePO4 quality – production process
The production process determines the stability and life of the battery, whether the internal protection of the cells is better, and whether the series connection between the cells is stable, which all determine the life of the battery. Laser welding is the current mainstream connection method, with a very strong connection, we have tested that even if the connection piece is broken, the welded part will not come off. Whether the cells are well fixed is also a key point, many rudimentary factories simply bundle the cells together and use insulating plates for isolation, and whether the whole battery pack is well fixed will be the key point, because, by the time of later use, the cells will bulge, clamping or loosening also directly affects the health and life of the battery.
Anyway, if you buy a battery at a price much lower than the market price, be aware that it may have old cells inside.
