S-5!, a solar mounting solutions manufacturer for metal roofs, together with solar developer Spear Commercial & Industrial of Texas, recently completed a 53-kW solar installation on S-5!’s new corporate headquarters located on 4.5 acres in the heart of Black Forest, Colorado — just outside the city limits of Colorado Springs.
Using the company’s PVKIT direct-attach solar mounting solution, the solar system will provide 84 MWh of energy annually — and with energy saving lighting and climate controls up to — account for 75% of the facility’s power.
“Many roadblocks were encountered from conception to completion, but a clear vision, persistence and perseverance paved the way for what is now an office that I could only dream of,” said Rob Haddock, CEO and founder of S-5! “To begin, finding a location in Black Forest that was suitable was no easy feat.”
Featuring three components, the PVKIT enabled solar installers to mount the Trina solar panels directly onto the metal roof. The array also uses Enphase inverters. The PVKIT comes pre-assembled to reduce installation time and cost for PV mounting by eliminating the need for a rail system, while also providing load distribution into the roof and substructure.
The office features a pre-painted Galvalume Drexel Metals 24-gauge, low-gloss black PVDF standing seam roof supported by hand-peeled log trusses.
“The S-5! corporate office space is the achievement of a lifelong dream,” Haddock said. “In search of a workplace that ‘feels like home and a family gathering place,’ I wanted to blend into Black Forest in a tasteful and non-intrusive, non-disruptive way, and wanted it to feel like it ‘belongs’ here, not stuck here. Having spent the past 50 years as a proud resident and active member of the community, it was imperative for me that his new office be constructed in Black Forest.”
