The Buckhorn Children and Family Services – Rogers Cottage Recovery House, a 12-bedroom inpatient rehabilitation facility for adult women in Perry County, Kentucky, is taking a significant step towards environmental sustainability by doubling the size of its solar array. With the addition of a new 26.9 kW array, the system now totals 47.4 kW.

This expansion, made possible through a collaboration between Everybody Solar, HOMES and Mountain Association, will generate an additional 36,724 kWh of clean electricity annually, resulting in a significant environmental impact. The original project, completed a few years ago with Everybody Solar at the helm, was initially permitted for a larger size. With Buckhorn securing initial funding, Everybody Solar’s crucial support in closing the financial gap made this expansion a reality.

The financial savings from this expanded solar installation will be strategically reinvested into essential services and programs at Rogers Cottage. These savings will support a variety of impactful outcomes, including maintaining daily operations and providing critical resources for participants in recovery programs, such as transportation for outdoor activities, job interview preparation, life skills training, professional development, and mental health support.

“Our partnership with Everybody Solar aligns perfectly with our mission to provide a sanctuary of healing and hope,” said Billy Smith, CEO of Buckhorn Children & Family Services, which operates Rogers Cottage. “Doubling our solar capacity will not only reduce our environmental footprint but also enable us to reinvest savings into empowering the lives of those we serve.”
