The final episode of Energy Matters for Season 1 took us to the showroom floor at the recent Everything Electric NSW held in March. From electric cars to construction equipment, thousands of car and tech enthusiasts flooded Sydney’s showgrounds to catch a glimpse, and maybe a test drive, of the latest electric technology. As Everything Electric Melbourne gears up for 14-16 November 2025, we explore the innovation behind the technology.

Fully Charged vision sparks global electrification buzz

Dan Caesar, co-founder of Everything Electric and the popular Fully Charged YouTube channel, gave us the lowdown. What began as a video series has become a global movement with 18 events, and counting. Sydney’s hosted three of them.

It’s not just about cars. Visitors explored electric scooters, motorbikes, bicycles, utes, and even off-road machinery. The crowd wasn’t shy either, with hands-on test drives being the main attraction.

BYD and EVDirect push innovation, not just EVs

Mark Harland, COO of EVDirect, gave us a tour of the latest BYD range. These aren’t your average EVs. They’re safe, stylish, and tech-savvy, all with a 5-star ANCAP rating.

The real standout? The BYD Shark ute. A full-size pallet fits snug in the tray. It’s built for tradies and travellers alike. Add in 240V outlets and you’ve got power for a fridge or Weber BBQ—handy in a blackout or at the beach.

Harland says the ute market’s been stagnant. BYD is changing that with plug-in hybrids and all-electric options built for everyday Aussies.

From scooters to excavators—electrification hits every scale

Segway’s Gino Casha showed us their new third-gen scooter range, along with e-bikes, go-karts, and motorbikes. Micromobility is booming, and Segway is clearly leading the pack.

Luxury EV maker Zeekr is carving a niche in the tech-luxe space. Spokesperson Matt McCroarey explained their focus: sleek designs packed with intuitive tech, like “Hey Zeekr” voice commands. It’s EV, but lux.

And what about heavy-duty gear? Reid Gibson from CJD Equipment demoed two battery-powered machines: the Volvo L25 wheel loader and ECR25 excavator. These beasts are built for the worksite but run clean and quiet, thanks to lithium-ion power.

NSW Government backs everyday electrification

The real takeaway came from Gill Goldsmith and Terry Niemeier of the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water. Their team has now fronted Everything Electric for three years, not just to promote, but to listen.

They’re not just showing up—they’re showing the way. NSW residents can tap into government support to electrify their homes. Programs currently help fund:

These incentives cut upfront costs and reduce long-term energy bills. Whether you’re swapping out gas appliances or installing a battery, there’s support to make the switch.

Terry noted that feedback from events like this shapes future programs. The NSW Government wants to hear what’s working—and what’s not—to better design upcoming policies.

Gill added that momentum is picking up fast. Two years ago, NSW had 20,000 EVs on the road. Now it’s over 80,000. Councils, businesses, and households are joining the movement. Electrification is no longer niche—it’s mainstreaming.

The road ahead: bigger, bolder, electric

Dan Caesar summed it up well. Everything Electric’s mission is clear: get us off combustion tech and into clean, efficient solutions. Today, only one in ten new cars sold in Australia is electric. In ten years, he reckons that number will be close to ten out of ten.

When that happens, these events will be ten times bigger, with more brands, more tech, and more visitors. But the heart of the event won’t change—giving Aussies the confidence to electrify their homes, cars, and communities.

Stay tuned for the upcoming Everything Electric Melbourne event from 14 to 16 November 2025.

Missed the episode? No worries! Catch up now via 9Now. You can also catch encore screenings on Sunday at 8am, Tuesday at 6:30am, and Thursday at 10:30am.
