For the first time ever, South Australia is hosting the Smart Energy Expo, and Adelaide is ready to shine. This free, jam-packed event on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, will bring together government leaders, innovators, and industry professionals to tackle the big questions around Australia’s clean energy future.
Held across multiple streams and stages, the Expo is not your average trade show. It’s a powerhouse of knowledge sharing, training, and real-world collaboration.
Why Adelaide, why now?
South Australia is no stranger to renewable leadership. From rooftop solar uptake to grid-scale batteries, the state continues to push boundaries. Hosting this year’s Smart Energy Expo is both symbolic and strategic. It positions Adelaide as a national hub for clean energy transition, as the country leans harder into electrification and storage, backed by programs like the Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
Power-packed program
The day opens with a deep dive into South Australia’s Energy Transition, chaired by Annabel Griffin of King & Wood Mallesons. The session includes a video address from Federal Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen, plus live insights from Paul Martyn (Department for Energy and Mining), John Grimes (Smart Energy Council), and a lineup of movers and shakers from SA Power Networks, Energy Skills Australia, and The Energy Project.
The energy only builds from there, with panels covering:
- Global perspectives on energy leadership and investment
- Smart energy innovation made in SA, featuring Tindo Solar’s CEO, Richard Petterson
- Scaling up energy solutions, with voices from LMS Energy and Collaborative Energy
- Consumer energy electrification, including MAC Trade Services and the Department for Energy and Mining
The day wraps with a keynote from SA MP Sarah Andrews, followed by networking drinks to continue the conversation.
Installer stream: earn CPD points while getting future-ready
Installers won’t want to miss the Smart Installer stream, which runs alongside the main expo. The lineup includes practical training on:
- The latest AS/NZS 5139 battery standards with Geoff Bragg
- FranklinWH BESS installation and certification
- Marshall Blackbox tech and integration with ZECO Energy
- EV charging infrastructure, supply chain strategy, and beyond-solar revenue streams
These sessions offer up to 90 CPD points and real tools to navigate an evolving regulatory and consumer landscape.
The bigger picture: Clean energy momentum is growing
Australia’s clean energy sector is surging. The Smart Energy Expo is more than an industry catch-up; it’s a rallying point. From state-based electrification initiatives to new federal programs like Cheaper Home Batteries, there’s never been a better time to connect the dots.
With keynote leaders, technical deep dives, and an installer-focused program, Adelaide’s Smart Energy Expo is set to drive the next chapter of Australia’s energy story.
